If you have an affinity with horses, or would simply like to do something different, Samos invites you to experience the island’s beauty on horseback. Explore the countryside, forests and coastal paths with a four footed companion!

Whether you’re an experienced rider or a beginner, Samos offers a variety of horse riding experiences. Guided trails through olive groves and forest, up in the mountains with breathtaking panoramic views, or down to the beach for a swim in the clear blue waters. Be prepared for numerous lovely surprises!

The horses are mostly originally Greek and Samian bred horses. A reliable race, characterised by its endurance, will to work hard and friendliness. They may not be the tallest horses, but they most certainly are capable of giving you a taste of real Greek perseverance!

Costs for horse riding on Samos vary depending on the duration of the ride and the chosen location. Generally, prices are reasonable, providing an affordable way to connect with nature and enjoy the island’s tranquillity.

Horse riding on Samos provides an authentic connection with the island’s landscape. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face as you take a stroll off the beaten path.

Panouris Ranch is situated in a rural area, 11 km from Samos town, close to Vlamari. All rides will start from here. After a welcome and short introduction about your level and riding skills, you will get a horse assigned to you that fits you best. Riding helmets are provided. The local guide ensures a safe and enjoyable ride, while they share their knowledge of the island’s history and natural wonders.

The Ranch offers different itineraries, exploring the east side of Samos:

  • Mikri Lakka – 4 hrs
    Forest trail ending in the bay of Mikri Lakka. Time for a refreshing swim and a small picknick beach on the beach under the shade of the trees.
  • Profitis Ilias – 2 hrs
    A ride through the forest to the top of the mountain ending at the small chapel of Profitis Ilias with magnificent views.
  • Forest Rides – 1 hrs / 40 minutes
    Also suitable for children.

Come prepared!

What to bring?

  • Water, sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
  • Water shoes and a swimming suit for the beach ride.

What to wear?

  • Riding outfit with riding boots or long, comfortable trousers & closed shoes.
